236/365 Steps

236/365 Steps

“Saturday Sunset” What does this have to do with steps? Umm … they both start with “S”?  Finding an opportunity of a photo that included steps wasn’t happening today.  This is what was happening and thus is the picture of the day. I learned that sunsets are hard, at least for me, to photograph such that they are as beautiful in the photo as they are firsthand.

235/365 Landscape

235/365 Landscape

‘Summer Parked” There are lots of great things about Dallas, but its beautiful landscape is not one of them.  Cityscape?  Maybe, but definitely not landscape.  With today’s prompt being a local landscape, I was at a loss.  I finally decided, almost too late in the day,  that we do have lots of parks that provide a nice respite from the concrete and glass that covers most of the city. I took several photos of this expansive park.  In the end,…

231/365 Urban/Hidden/Neglected

“Black and White Movies” This is the Plaza Theater in Carrollton, TX. It was built in 1949.  The door that is in the foreground, the one blocked by the bench, was the “Negros only” door.  It led straight to the balcony.  Some days it feels like we have come so far beyond that time and on others it feels as if time has stood still and we are still right there.

230/365 Measure

230/365 Measure

“No Need to Measure” There is really no need to say anything here other than it is late, school (at least for teachers) starts tomorrow and we went out for a superb French meal with some spectacular friends to keep from thinking about the reality that summer vacation is officially over. I am fond of foods that I can eat as much of as I’d like without having to worry about measuring anything.  Hooray for fresh green beans!

229/365 Pink

229/365 Pink

“Obvious Pink” I have a button that reads, “The obvious escapes many.”  It is hardcore evidence of my judgmental side.  I bet none of you knew I had one of those.  So, this morning as I was looking at the day’s prompt on my iPad, I spoke aloud my concern about what I could photograph that was pink – and not a flower.  Between you and me, I am getting tired of photographing flowers.  Anyway, my beloved family asked if…

228/365 Eye Catching

“Bowled Over” It is hard to believe that the new school year is about to begin.  Weber goes back to school Monday; I am free until Thursday.  Either way, it seems too soon.  We spent our last day of weekday freedom accomplishing a couple of errands that are definitely no fun on the weekend. Since Brooke is now home with us, we have had to do some re-arranging and re-organizing around here to make room for her and, more importantly,…

I Sense A Theme Here

I Sense A Theme Here

On July 10th, exactly a month ago, Weber and I celebrated our third anniversary and I gave my final exam for first summer term.  While I was at school, my beloved husband was doing on his anniversary what most men do, frantically trying to wrap a gift for me.  This involved finding appropriate wrapping paper.  And so the story begins . . . We don’t have much cause for gift wrapping throughout the year because a) the majority of our…

199/385 A Source of Happiness

199/385 A Source of Happiness

“Eat, Drink and Be Happy” I am blessed that there are so many, many things in my life that not only make me happy but bring me great joy.  Most of those things I photograph often.  I decided today to head toward the silly rather than the serious side of things that bring me happiness.  This is not to belittle the prompt but to attempt to document all the little quirky things that make me, me. For the most part,…

189/365 One Flower

189/365 One Flower

“Crepe Myrtle” I probably shouldn’t say this, but I am getting tired of taking and looking at pictures of flowers.  Don’t get my wrong, I think flowers are beautiful, but there comes a point where I just want to enjoy the real thing rather than photograph them.  The only reason that I attempted today’s prompt rather than going off on my own tangent was that it encouraged us to photograph a single flower from a different or unique perspective.  …

187/365 Blue Sky

187/365 Blue Sky

“Saturday Morning in Cowtown” I had to be in Fort Worth this morning at 9am for a presentation at a conference.  Though it is only thirty miles from our house to Fort Worth, the traffic and road construction between here and there often make it seem much further.  To be on the safe side, we left way early.  Since it was 7am on a Saturday morning there was virtually no traffic on the highways, which made the tangle of construction…
