331/365 Grateful for Home Made

331/365 Grateful for Home Made

“Grateful for Bread” Since Brooke has been home with us, and even more since the girls started their bread baking business, we never have a shortage of freshly baked bread.  For me, the carbohydrate addict, this is like heaven on earth.  I, however, do not take this abundance of bread for granted.  It is a spiritual thing to watch all of the ingredients, separate as they are, come together into these beautiful loaves.  The process is sometimes long and rather…

320/365 Grateful for Color

“Colors in the Wind” This is the status of my Christmas knitting.  It is probably in this particular state because I was taking pictures of the yarn rather than knitting with the yarn.  Apparently I have a problem with priorities.  But the colors sure are pretty all clumped together.  Maybe I can give ‘Do-It-Yourself Hat, Scarf, Slipper  Kits”  to everyone.

“Not Forgotten” This is the POW / MIA bracelet that I have had since 1969.  Though I was much too young to understand all of the politics of the Viet Nam war, it was very real to me because my dad spent a year in Viet Nam.  Thankfully, he returned home safely to us. As a child, I wore two of these bracelets.  In 1973 while living in Hawaii, I had the honor of meeting each and every plane carrying…

304/365 Frightful

304/365 Frightful

“Second Generation Trick or Treater” This beautiful little girl is certainly not frightful.  What is frightening is that she is the daughter of one of Weber’s former middle school students.  You know you have been teaching a long time when you have “grand-students” who come trick-or-treating at your house. It was dark outside and she is a wiggly two-year old excited by Halloween so this is not a great photo.  I do kind of like the softness on her face….

293/365 Begins With “P”

“Playing With Mrs. Pota….Pumpkin Head” I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion. – Henry David Thoreau – I love this man!  How can you not when he speaks such wisdom?  I guess this means that he would not have been interested in sharing that 10×10 cabin in the woods with me.

185/365 Fireworks

185/365 Fireworks

“Faulty Fireworks” No, there was nothing wrong with the fireworks that we saw.  They were pretty good.  Our city had its fireworks display last night.  It was a fun comity celebration with music and fun.  And best of all, it was free! I was excited to try and get some decent fireworks shot.  I have not been very successful with this in the past.  Now I know why. This morning, after I had taken a bunch of less than impressive…

132/365 A Mother’s Gift

132/365 A Mother’s Gift

“O” Joy We got back into to town Sunday afternoon in time to stop by the house, unload the car from our weekend away and then head to Resounding Harmony rehearsal. So, our Mother’s Day was more of an observation than a celebration. The girls stayed at the house and animal sat while we were gone. That is a huge gift – no boarding; that makes us and the animals very happy. They also cleaned out and organized both the…

Easter 2013

Easter 2013

Easter is an exhausting time for church musicians!  Last week, I sang for seven services and we had an evening of rehearsal,  Come Sunday afternoon, I was super tired.  We did have a fun but fairly low-key Easter celebration.  Fortunately, I was not responsible for much of the cooking. Brooke flew home last week to surprise Erin.  Erin went to church with us at noon on Friday and then we went to lunch.  This is when we surprised her, though…

90/365 Basket

“Egg Game 2103” I have many pictures from our Easter Day together.  My intent is to write a longer post about our day, but I am too tired to do it tonight.  I will write and post about it tomorrow.   This picture is from the playing of “the egg game.”  From left to right the hands are Brooke, Erin, Edgar, Edgar’s mom, and his little brother.  Weber, Jason and I were slow to get our hands in the eggs…
