223/365 Helianthus Annuus

223/365 Helianthus Annuus

“Sun + Flower” I love sunflowers both to just look at and to photograph.  Unfortunately, on my limited path today there were no sunflowers to be found.  I had to settle for a picture of a flower, a hibiscus on the patio, in the 100+ degree sun.  I’m not sure how it is managing to stay so fresh looking in these miserable temperatures. Sorry about no sunflowers, Erin!   Oh wait . . .here is one from the archives:-)

172/365 Vines

“Growing Hearts” This vine is growing ALL OVER the backyard.  We have to pull it out of the trees and off of other plants.  It has a resilience much like that of the cockroach.  Its only redeeming quality is that it provides privacy for “natural” nights in the hot tub.   This evening as I was photographing it, I noticed that many of its leaves are heart-shaped.  It is hard to despise something with little hearts all over it.  I…

150/365 A Butterfly

150/365 A Butterfly

“Not A Butterfly” . . . but pretty nonetheless.   I noticed today that first of our day lilies has bloomed.  These are my favorite!  I love the shape and I especially love their color.

“Anthuriums” There is not much blooming  in our yard right now.  I have not planted any annuals yet, either in the ground or in pots.  We are in between the blooming of  the irises and the day lilies.  So, the best it gets is this anthurium that is living on the back patio.  Even it is a little faded.  I guess I need to go get some colorful annuals this weekend and do some planting.

“Peace in the Park” I love the peacefulness of this path which meanders through our city’s rose garden.  I really like the simplicity of this image.

“First Fruits” Erin brought us a strawberry plant.  It is full of berries already!  Though this shot is kind of busy, I like it because it shows the berries at several different stages of development. I also like these two very different perspectives on strawberries. “Ripening” “From the Berry Back”

105/365 Sprouts

105/365 Sprouts

“Dinner Sprouts” I wish the sprouts that I had photographed today were sprouting plants in my garden.  Sadly, I have planted nothing.  I was feeling OK about that last week when we had temperatures in the upper 30’s.  Today the high temperature was 90.  This is good garden weather.  I guess I will break down and buy some plants rather than starting from seeds.  I’m not sure when that is going to happen. Since I had no sprouting plants, I…

102/365 A Touch of Yellow

102/365 A Touch of Yellow

“Herbs” I think today’s prompt was intended to be a nod to spring with a touch of yellow coming from spring flowers.  None of our outdoor flowers are yellow and I used my indoor cut flowers for yesterday’s prompt so I was kind of stuck today.  So here are some fresh herbs waiting to be minced and placed in the prep bowls. Bonus Yellow Picture! “A Pucker and a Smile” Knowing that today’s prompt was a touch of yellow, Weber…

92/365 Strut

92/365 Strut

“Iris, Struttin’ Her Stuff” Most of the iris in the yard are either purple or white.  (See previous post.)  We noticed this one this afternoon amidst a few of the white ones.  I think the colors are magnificent and pretty unique. Here is a close-up of the colors. So far this is the only one we have with these colors.
