279/365 Harvest

279/365 Harvest

“Making Applesauce” I wish that I could say that I had harvested these apples from my orchard to make applesauce.  Sadly, I did not.  I had to settle for the apples at the grocery store, which are good right now since wee are in the midst of apple season.  I decided to make a small batch of applesauce this afternoon.  Applesauce is one of my favorite things.  It fills the bill when I want something sweet and it is good…

253/365 Around the House

253/365 Around the House

“The Evidence” So, the girls have started a business of a weekly bread baking and delivery service.  I am proud of their entrepreneurial spirit.  Weber and I have become investors in this new venture – it is all taking place in our kitchen.  Therefore, we are “underwriting” their “rent” and utilities.  Last week was their first week to deliver bread.  Though they are still fine tuning the workflow, it was a relatively successful opening week. This week’s photo prompts are…

“Not Your Kid’s S’mores” For some time we have been wanting to have a get together at the house.  It has but put off several times in hopes that all of the renovations would be finished.  We are not quite there, but close enough that we decided to go ahead with it tonight.  This seemed like a good way to begin the new school year. it was fiesta time – empanadas, tacos, refried beans, corn, slaw and homemade salsa and guacamole….

“Chance and Necessity” It is hatch chili season and we have about ten pounds of them.  As I write this, Brooke is roasting them so that they can soon become sauce for enchiladas or some other such goodness.

“Lots of Loaves” The girls are trying to test their recipes in preparation for starting their own baking business.  For now they are taking orders from their friends.  Today Brooke made several kinds of mini loaves to offer as samples.  They look good and they smell really good but they don’t see the need to add a taste tester to their staff so I have not had any of today’s product.  Today’s breads are oatmeal and cinnamon raisin.  The truth is…

230/365 Measure

230/365 Measure

“No Need to Measure” There is really no need to say anything here other than it is late, school (at least for teachers) starts tomorrow and we went out for a superb French meal with some spectacular friends to keep from thinking about the reality that summer vacation is officially over. I am fond of foods that I can eat as much of as I’d like without having to worry about measuring anything.  Hooray for fresh green beans!

200/365 Two Scoops

200/365 Two Scoops

“Frozen Family Fun” Today was one of those days when everyone was a willing participant in the daily photo.  After a nice vegetarian dinner at home, prepared by Brooke, we headed to our local frozen yogurt shop for two scoops – each.  Mine is the one in the front – cake batter and cappuccino yogurt topped with reese’s peanut butter cups and graham cracker crumbs.  Yum!

199/385 A Source of Happiness

199/385 A Source of Happiness

“Eat, Drink and Be Happy” I am blessed that there are so many, many things in my life that not only make me happy but bring me great joy.  Most of those things I photograph often.  I decided today to head toward the silly rather than the serious side of things that bring me happiness.  This is not to belittle the prompt but to attempt to document all the little quirky things that make me, me. For the most part,…

198/365 Begins With “S”

“S is for Strawberry” I waited way to late in the day for this one – after choir rehearsal and a few beers at a local night spot with choir members as we celebrated our last rehearsal before leaving on Monday for our two week tour in England.
