53/365-2 Oh Boy

53/365-2 Oh Boy

“My Girl,  Her Boy,  Their Baby Boy” I have more “baby” pictures that I took today, but the Internet is being difficult right now and I am having a hard time keeping the connection long enough to upload photos.  Check back tomorrow for more pictures of Leo.

46/365-2 Geared Up

46/365-2 Geared Up

“Erin and Leo” Today was a busy day around our house, but it was the good kind of busy!  Erin wanted us to watch our “grand puppy”  so that she and Edgar could go run some errands.    The agreement was that we would do that as long as they were back before our out of town guests arrived.   The kids and the puppy arrived just as I was finishing the last little bit of sweeping.  Perfect timing! Leo…

18/365-2 Posed

18/365-2 Posed

‘Erin” I am terrible with posing people for shots.  I do OK with the stuff behind the camera but I am not comfortable posing people.  That is why I always have to rely on Erin when I need a people shot.  She is a natural in front of the camera.  Having said that, I have to confess that tonight I photographed Erin and Edgar together and didn’t do such a great job.  The light was weird and created some harsh…

362/365 A Potrait

“My Two Lensbabies”  Today is my 52nd birthday.  I’m not sure why disclosing one’s age has always been on the socially unacceptable list.  It is what it is.  There are days when I look and feel far beyond my years; then there are those days when I feel much younger.  The truth is, no matter how young or old you look or feel,  where you are is where you are and it is much better than the alternative. This is…

361/365 Well Used

361/365 Well Used

“Blessed Art Thou Among Women” This is a rosary that belonged to Weber’s grandmother.  The rose petal beads were made from her mother’s funeral flowers.  Though rose petal beads start out rose colored, over time and with use they turn black.  These beads are black having been prayed with by now four generations.  I was struck by  how the bokeh is pink, as if the light and life of those roses still live within the beads. Hail Mary full of…

359/365 Christmas

359/365 Christmas

“Beethoven’s First” It is hard to believe that Christmas Day has come and gone already.  I’m not exactly sure how it all happened but I think everyone had a good day.  As far as Christmases go, we had a relatively low-key day.  That was OK with me. I learned one thing today.  My family is a bunch of serious enablers!  They all gave me great gifts, many of which will support my photography obsession journey.  I got everything from a new…

334/365 Grateful for Sincerity

“A Swing and A Smile” I have so enjoyed my Thanksgiving break!  As is usually the case with me, I have not accomplished everything that I had hoped over this long weekend,  but I have enjoyed it and have no regrets about the things left undone.  And, I have not stepped foot in a retail establishment of any kind…not even the grocery store.  We won’t talk about online purchases. After going out to breakfast with Weber this morning, I went…

333/365 Grateful for Legacy

333/365 Grateful for Legacy

“Buttons” It’s funny where the mind goes when you think of legacy.  My first thought was to cookbooks.  Though I don’t have any of my mother’s cookbooks, I do have some recipe cards that she made for me that are in her handwriting.  I also have Weber’s mother’s cookbook, the one with all of the handwritten favorites on scraps of paper and those recipes cut from packages, magazines and newspapers.  Every family has a cookbook like this.  They are treasures…

329/365 Grateful for Relationships

“Second Chances” Brooke’s Kitchen Aide mixer decided that it had mixed enough bread and ceased to play nicely with her.   Not to be defeated by a mixer, Brooke turned to the Internet to see if she could diagnose its exact ailment.  Based on her findings, she decided that it needed a new gear.  She found the parts and ordered them online. They arrived yesterday and today was surgery day for “Matilda.”  Brooke managed to get everything taken apart except for…

309/365 Grateful for Birthdays

309/365 Grateful for Birthdays

“The Right Time” Despite all the jokes and teasing that usually come our way on birthdays, especially once you cross the 50 mark, they are still deserving of a joyous celebration.  To have the opportunity to greet another year is such a blessing. One of the ways that we honor and celebrate the lives of our parents who have died is to light a remembrance candle on their birthdays.  It is a small but meaningful gesture.
