Sailing Toward Sixty #4 – Bridging the Generation Gap

Sailing Toward Sixty #4 – Bridging the Generation Gap

According to Facebook, today is Friends Day.  It is really Facebook’s birthday.  Since Facebook allows friends to stay it contact with one another over space and time, they have dubbed it Friends Day as a means of celebration.  That makes a great tie-in to the post that I intended to write several weeks ago,  before the flu so rudely messed up my plans. The week before I got sick, my friend, Becca, came to visit from Illinois.  Having a…

Who Are You?

Who Are You?

Today’s Capture Your 365 photo prompt was Be Thankful for Who You Are.  We were urged to take a self-portrait that shows who we are.  This is my photo. For many years, I tried to achieve perfection in everything that I did – from school, to relationships, to parenting.  I thought that I had to be perfect in the eyes of everyone around me to be worthy of being be loved.  Needless to say, I fell way short of my goal….

September 2017 – A Month of Stories

September 2017 – A Month of Stories

And in the blink of an eye, or maybe two, 2017 is three-quarters of the way over.  September was a full month, one of many ups and downs.  It was a month that made me look at all of the blessings that I have and be grateful.  My daily photos from this month taken as a group may make September 2017 my all-time favorite month ever since starting Capture Your 365 back in January of 2013.  I still have…

Dear Universe

Dear Universe

I was standing in the closet looking for a t-shirt to match my workout capris.  We all know that time on the treadmill feels much better when your clothes match.  Since tomorrow is laundry day and I’ve done my time on the treadmill 7 out of the last eight days, my clothing choices were limited…as in I had one pair of clean capris.  And as it turned out, my choice of a matching t-shirt was equally limited.  I pulled out my Human…

The Many Shades of Friendship

The Many Shades of Friendship

It’s been a whirlwind of celebration and good times around our house for the last five days or so.  I know how blessed I am to be able to say that as there are so many people in the world who have nothing to celebrate and not much to call good in their lives.  My hope is that I’ll never take any of the gifts of this life for granted. A good friend flew in last Thursday to spend a…

January 8-16: Cleaning, Friends, and Tornado Sirens

January 8-16: Cleaning, Friends, and Tornado Sirens

Only sixteen days into the new year and so many good things have already happened!  Yes, I have taken a week long hiatus from writing here; though that was not exactly what I had planned, it is a good thing.  Last weekend, while on retreat, I felt compelled to write even though I was not supposed to be.  And this week, I have been at home with access to my computer, but other things were more important. I returned home…

Who Do You Say That I Am?

Who Do You Say That I Am?

I just watched a story on the news about former Olympian and six-time gold medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen, now paralyzed from the waist down after an ATV accident in 2014, who is upset because a lock Dallas hotel employee referred to her as “a cripple.”  Cripple is apparently an offensive term.  Interestingly, nowhere in any of the reports that I have read on the incident does she ever say how she prefers to be called. This argument over how one refers…

A Whirlwind Week

A Whirlwind Week

The past week seems to have flown by!  Last weekend we were in Baltimore because I had a NOAH board meeting.  Though it was a quick trip and I had little free time, I enjoyed the getaway and change of scenery.  Weber and I did have a bit of time to wander around Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on Friday afternoon before my meeting began at 6. It was interesting to see another lightship.  My dad was instrumental in restoring a similar…

279/365-2 October Macro – Whole

279/365-2 October Macro – Whole

“Cups and Tea” Very rarely does something happen in my life that I can’t make fit the daily prompt.  Today, however, was one of those days. A relatively new friend, but one who has become dear to us very quickly, made us these tea cups to go with two others and a matching pot that we won last summer as part of the NOAH conference silent auction.  They are “so us” and serve as a tangible reminder of the blessings…
